Leanne Manado, the Artist, known as Lila Dara is a 45 year old woman, of Indigenous descent. The Artist's paternal heritage is of the Bardi and Nyul-Nyul people, from the Dampier Peninsula,in the Kimberley of Western Australia. The Artist's mother is fourth generation from South Australia; the Artist' s birth-place.
Lila Dara is the name chosen by the Artist, meaning Night Sky. The Artist, has a secret (bush) name, which is the name-place of her paternal Grandmother's “country”. The combination of her names, which may be fully disclosed at a later date translates to the
“Night Sky of my Grandmother's Country” This idea is of the Artist's “learning place”
Lila Dara has recently undertaken water-colour painting and oil crayon drawing. The Artist is self-taught.
The Artist believes that the images of flowers, more specifically the Water-Lily contain a religious and spiritual motif, that she will reveal at a later date as part of the natural progression of her work. The Artist's ultimate goal is create a personal and socio-economic paradigm that combines the traditions of both the Indigenous and Western Christian worlds.
The Artist's understanding is the culmination of her 45 years' life experience.
